3 reasons why you need to give more hugs

Posted: Sep 26 2016

We are feeling like it is time to start sharing the love a little bit more. Last week, we started a conversation talking about hot lemon and honey, and the importance of loving yourself by having more "me" time. This week we want to talk about showing your appreciation for the people you love with the simple, yet impactful act of giving a hug.
Here is why you need to give more hugs:
1. Oxytocin. Oxytocin is said to be released into the body while giving and/or receiving a hug (Colino, Stacy). One of the benefits of an increase of oxytocin is a decrease in stress hormones. We like the idea of having a decrease in stress hormones- don't you?
2. It is one of the best ways to say hello or goodbye. Have you ever been so happy to see someone that you run over, give them a hug, and, simply put, just feel good?   Science confirms that people absorb energy from others.  So spread your love and light by starting you hellos with a hug, and ending your goodbyes with one too.
3.  It helps people get through the bad days. Giving a hug is giving those special people in your life comfort. After a long day or when dealing with unfavourable situations, it is almost always refreshing to get a hug from someone you love.
