Should I Cleanse my Mala?

Posted: Jun 20 2017

Lately we have been coming across articles that state all crystals need cleaning, and some that say a few do not need to be cleansed.

This article is simply meant to generate conversation and provide basic education around the topic

When it comes to crystals and stones, I do not believe that there is a one-size-fits-all kind of answer. Just as each person is unique, the energy that a crystal produces for one person is also, unique. When you wear a crystal or stone, it absorbs both negative and positive energy. A cleanse is said to get rid of the negative energy that your crystal absorbs.

When should I cleanse my Mala?

There is no specific time-frame to cleanse- use your intuition. If You have had a hard day, week or month, taking the time to cleanse your Mala could also act as a way to cleanse yourself. One day when I was feeling stressed and overwhelmed, I walked into the clinic that Sabrina works at, and it was obvious that something was wrong. Something she told me that stuck is that as a woman, we are given the opportunity to cleanse once a month- with each period, comes a new beginning. This is the same with your Mala- take each cleanse as a new birth- a way to recharge. Take it as a way to let go of the things that are no longer serving you; take it as an opportunity move forward.

Cleanse: rid (a person, place or thing) of something seen as unwanted, unpleasant or defiling.

How do I cleanse my Mala?

On a full moon, place your Mala in the moonlight, and leave it there overnight. You can put your Mala outside, or leave it in an area of your house that gets moonlight. The moonlight will recharge your Mala, bringing you more positive energy.
